| Tips for Franchise Trade Shows & Expos |
Attending one or more of the franchise trade shows is an easy way to acquaint yourself with the realm of possibilities in franchise choices. But, unless you are an old hand at these events, it is easy to leave with nothing more than a shopping bag full of promotional gadgets and a confusing jumble of information.
Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your expo outing:
1. Make sure that you are dealing with a bona fide franchise.
Some of the exhibitors are not actually franchises. Many exhibitors are offering "business opportunities" and "multi-level marketing plans."
Do not be side tracked by these other business modes that claim to be offering business and franchise opportunities.
Ask a representative of the company to explain how it does business to find out if you are dealing with a franchise system.
If the company is offering franchises it must issue a Uniform Franchise Offering Circular (UFOC) that conforms to Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulations.
2. Do not walk around aimlessly.
Look carefully at the directory and decide on the companies that you want to investigate.
Make a list of questions and systematically approach targeted company personnel and ask your questions.
After you have finished with the initial contacts, you are free to browse and window shop to find new and unexpected opportunities.
