In 1987, National Car Rental launched the Emerald Club, the first frequent- renter, membership program in the car rental industry, designed to speed up the rental transaction process for business and leisure travelers on the go. At some locations, members may bypass the rental counter altogether and proceed directly to the fleet lot to choose their car.
