Why Franchising Worked For Me
Being a franchise owner can be an extremely rewarding experience. If you have the motivation and the right tools, you can really make the business your own. Here are a few reasons why franchising with The UPS Store worked for me and some tips on how to make the most of your store or center.
Have passion for your business
It’s important to be passionate about your business because, as a franchise owner, the responsibility to succeed starts with you. Initially, I began working at my father’s The UPS Store franchise location as a way to get through graduate school. However, I quickly realized that owning and operating my own business was my passion. The positive work atmosphere, opportunities to grow and customer interaction are a perfect combination for a challenging, yet equally rewarding career. It was appealing to have the chance to be self- made, and franchising allowed me the independence to develop my own goals and take the business to the next level. In fact, I’m currently exploring opportunities to open an additional franchise location with The UPS Store.
Take advantage of resources
One of the greatest advantages of opening a franchise is the existing resources. By joining a franchise network, you have access to the parent company’s marketing resources, as well as training and development. The UPS Store in particular offers training to develop business acumen and day-to- day operational skills needed to own and operate a franchise. Even if you have passion for the business, it’s critical to have the knowledge and skills to be successful. It’s also critical to be aware of customer needs and make sure your business stays current on purchasing trends. The benefit of joining an established brand is that you already know what kind of customer you are serving and what kind of products they would want. Overall, business management skills and customer relations are two of the most important things needed to be efficient, successful and sustainable.
Utilize your network
The network of other franchise owners is also an important resource to consider and explore. The ability to network with other franchisees in the area opens the door for great insights into what it takes to own a successful franchise. In my experience, it’s also an overwhelmingly positive environment to work within a network of other owners. I regularly meet with other franchise owners in the area to share ideas and discuss ways to help each other’s businesses. The energy and drive of the other franchise owners continues to motivate me to be better.
Franchising was the right choice for me and it could be for you, too. For more information about opening a The UPS Store franchise, please visit www.theupsstorefranchise.com.
