Mad Science was founded in 1986 by two brothers, Ariel and Ron Shlien, in Montreal, when a local science teacher invited the boys, who loved science experiments, to give a laser light show demonstration at the YMCA, which was a huge success. The brothers were hired to run a regular weekend science enrichment program, and Mad Science was born. The name Mad Science was officially registered in 1990, and the company began expanding in 1993. By 1996, Mad Science had 28 franchises operating across North America, and 86 operating around the world by 2000.
