Hawaii's Java Kai Franchise Opportunities - History

Founded by Jennifer and Brent Hickman in 1997, Hawaii's Java Kai started in a building built in the 1920s near the Hanalei River in Hawaii. Old Hanalei Coffee Co., founded in 1994, was the original name of the business when the Hickman's bought it, but wanting to start fresh and create their own identity, the couple soon transformed the property and building into what is known today as Java Kai. After opening up one location, the Hickman's soon opened a second location on the south side of Kauai, near Kalapaki Bay. This soon sparked a desire amongst the couple to develop their own roasted coffee and while Brent worked to create the best beans he could his wife Jennifer began forming a brand identity and appealing packaging to harbor her husbands work. After that development the family soon started work on a third location in downtown Kapaa, where tasty gourmet baked goods and fresh juice alongside coffee is available. Known as the first micro coffee brewery in Kauai, Java Kai has become a dream come true for the Hickman family. In 2000 the family began selling franchise locations and today there are over five locations in Hawaii and along the United States West Coast. Hawaii's java Kai is currently looking for franchise partners in Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada Texas, and Oregon.
