Carino’s Italian restaurant began in the mid-1990s when Spageddies Italian Kitchen was acquired from Brinker International, Inc., by Kona Restaurant Group, Inc. and became Johnny Carino’s Italian Kitchen. In 1997, Johnny Carino’s was acquired by Fired Up, Inc., an Austin, Texas-based company, which reinvented the restaurant’s menu, focusing on fresh ingredients and handmade dishes and emphasizing authentic Italian cuisine, and changing the brand name to, simply, Carino’s Italian. Today, Carino’s Italian has more than 140 locations in the United States and 10 abroad.
