After dealing with a multitude of personal tragedies and facing a variety of hardships, Z-Coil founder Alvaro Gallegos decided to create a shoe that reduced the impact and natural ware that running has on the body. Even though the shoe appears to provide an extra spring, the Z-Coil shoe actually doesn't enhance the runner's natural gait, but instead reduces the amount of stress on feet, legs and the back by reducing the impact that occurs when a runner's foot makes contact with the ground or running surface. By 1995 Gallegos had refined his footwear to the point of opening his own custom shoe shop. In 2005, Gallegos and his son decided to create more consistency within the distribution network and soon began franchising. In 2007 Gallegos began working with select specialty shoe stores willing to learn how to go through the custom fitting process.
